SOAP (Sustainable Operations & Advocacy Partners)

SOAP is part of a hotel sustainability program sponsored by Balanced Wind, LLC.

SOAP collects liquid bath care products from hotels that are usually thrown away because they hold too much liquid to be recycled. Then individuals who need employment and skills training empty the liquid into larger containers that are donated to homeless shelters. The small containers are then recycled.

The fair market value of the donation is then sold as a tax deduction so that hotels can reduce their waste at no additional cost.

There are several social and environmental advantages to this operation:

  1. Individuals re-entering the workforce receive skills training and paid employment.
  2. High quality hygiene products are provided to low income families in need.
  3. Operation costs of food pantries, shelters and worker education programs are reduced.
  4. Soaps and containers are 100% recycled.
  5. Because we distribute locally, a reduced carbon footprint is ensured and the local economy is benefitted.
  6. USGBC LEED Certification and Credits

The Stewards Market is facilitating this process by employing individuals and housing the operation.
