Social Enterprises

Part of The Stewards Market's mission to improve the socio-economics of communities includes creating, nurturing and participating in a network of social businesses. A social enterprise operates like a normal, for-profit business, except they use their profits to benefit a social cause. We believe that the marketplace is a very powerful tool for improving the lives of people throughout the world. The members of this network also get involved with our high school programs. Entreprenuers may teach a class, be a guest speaker, or offer summer internships.

To fulfill this part of our mission we have four goals:

  1.  Create social ventures with mission minded business practices.
  2.  Support micro-enterprise.
  3.  Encourage existing businesses to join our mission minded business community.
  4.  Provide the virtual community for the network.

The first social venture created by The Stewards Market is King Lizzy Apparel, launched in 2009.

The second is SOAP (Sustainable Operations and Advocacy Partners), lauched in the summer of 2011.
