Understanding stewardship
“Each of you has received a gift to use to serve others.” 1 Peter 4:10
The Stewards Market believes that everyone has a responsibility to use their own gifts for a positive impact on our community. Together, we are working to form innovative methods that empower individuals to solve the challenges our communities are facing.
We believe every person has been entrusted with gifts from God and has a responsibility to be productive, careful, wise, yet generous with the use of these gifts. As a society, we have achieved so much, yet so much more is left to do. God’s word says, “…everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required…” Luke 12:48. This is The Stewards Market driving force and we are committed to seeing it through.
Stewardship is defined as the personal responsibility for taking care of another person’s property. Who’s property? God’s.
TSM stands on the following four principles in order to function as good stewards and help others do the same:
- Identify: Whether young or old at some point it is vital that we take a moment to recognize the gifts that are placed in our lives. These gifts will vary for each person.
- Guard: Once we realize that we have been blessed and given gifts to oversee, we must be sure to protect everything under our care. While we need to be generous, we ought not be wasteful or allow others to rob us of our gifts.
- Grow: Through various means we can and should look to increase the gifts given to us (talents, abilities, education, relationships, finances, etc.) ... in a responsible way.
- Share: So why should anyone follow the first 3 steps? Ultimately to please the One who entrusted us with so much. We can accomplish this by sharing our gifts with people whose lives we can positively impact.
